Miyajima Japan 2005

Miyajima is a small island about a 15 minute ferry ride from Hiroshima. It`s a very peaceful place. There are festivals here year round. Oyster festival in February, Hanabi (fireworks) in the summer, etc. The Japanese all say that Miyajima is one of the three most beautiful places in Japan.

This is the famous "Torii" on the water.




Because it sits on the water, this famous shrine was badly damaged in the typhoon we had in September. It`s nestled in a cove but that didn`t matter.

The characters symbolize peace.




Yukari.

The deer are all over the island, lazing about and walking the streets. Most of them hang around the ferry terminal - looking to be fed by tourists.
