Wat Pho
Wat Pho – last stop. One more temple would be enough Wats for me. Enough to earn the beer.
There’s a great café for lunch just outside of Wat Pho and around the corner. So the beer reward came early, before we were done, but the buzz would carry us through. That was my thinking.
Wat Pho is my favorite spot for sightseeing in Bangkok. It’s famous for the massive reclining Buddha (46m long 15m high), which is so hard to photograph. The soles of his feet are carved mother-of-pearl. Wat Pho also has the largest collection of Buddha images in Thailand. And many cool stone statues throughout that either stand at doorways or in gardens, holding various positions, like a war stance or yoga.
Wat Pho is also the national headquarters for the teaching and preservation of traditional Thai medicine, which includes Thai massage.
There weren’t many tourists there besides us. Mostly Buddhists there to study or pray. It was much more relaxing than the Grand Palace.
